Larry G. Wells

Larry G. Wells, 74, of Grand Island died Friday, May 5, 2017 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island.  Father Martin Egging  will celebrate the mass.  Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or the Howard County Medical Center.

Larry was born February 15, 1943 in Elba to Harland and Rosabelle (Larsen) Wells.

He was raised in the Elba and Cotesfield areas.  He attended school in Elba where he graduated in 1961.  He attended Kearney State College where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts in 1966.  He continued his education at Wayne State College, receiving his Master’s degree in 1973 in Building Construction.

Larry was united in marriage to Karen Sack on June 3, 1967 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wood River.

He began teaching in Wood River as an instructor in Industrial Arts.  Larry next taught in Elk Creek, where he also coached girl’s volleyball and was an assistant football coach.  He taught in West Point and coached boys wrestling. In 1978, the couple moved to Grand Island.

Larry then worked for Bosselman’s, retiring in 2011.

He then served as a substitute teach from 2011 until 2016.

Larry’s grandchildren were everything to him.  He could fix anything, garden, and work outside.  He loved to study and learn about the financial world and he and Karen loved to travel.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Grand Island.

Survivors include his wife, Karen of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and Kevin Doar of Bentonville, Arkansas and Denise and Aaron Butler of Flower Mound, Texas; four grandchildren, Nolan, Natalie, Grayson and Olivia; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ron Wells and Rodney and Linda Wells, all of Cotesfield and Roger and Deb Wells of St. Paul.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters-in-law, Loretta and Bonnie Wells.
