Frances J. Tuma

Frances J. Tuma, 89, of Cotesfield died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the United Methodist Church in North Loup.  Reverend Bonnie Brock will officiate.  Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in North Loup.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Frances was born August 9, 1928 south of North Loup to Bryan and Florence (Klinginsmith) Portis.

She was raised in Valley County and attended North Loup Schools.

Frances was united in marriage to Donald Cecil Jensen on May 23, 1945 at the Ord Methodist parsonage.  To this union five children were born, Norman, Norma, Phyllis, Joyce and Donald.

Together the couple owned, and operated Jensen’s Tavern in North Loup and they also farmed.

Her husband died in August 1961.

Frances married Frank Tuma on August 16, 1965 at the Ord Bethany Lutheran Church.  To that marriage one daughter, Linda, was born.  The couple lived on a farm near Cotesfield where they lived until Frances moved to Bickford Assisted Living in Grand Island in the fall of 2010.

She moved to Wedgewood Care Center in Spring of 2015 where she lived until the time of her death.

Her husband Frank died in February 2017.

She liked cooking, sewing and polka dances.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, four daughters and a son-in-law, 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren; son, Norm  (Kim) Jensen of St. Paul, their daughter, Kristie (Dave) Stricklin and their 5 children; daughter, Norma Kowalski of Grand Island, her children, Troy (deceased), his 2 children and 1 grandson, Tom and Ladean Kowalski and their 2 children, Michelle (Ted) Nelson and their 3 children, and Jeff Kowalski and his significant other Cindi Grooms and his child; daughter, Phyllis Conway of St. Paul and 2 daughters, Tina (Alan) Dush and their 2 children and Tonya (Ron) Devall and their 2 children; daughter, Joyce Williams of Cairo and 2 daughters, Candi Williams and her 3 children and 2 grandchildren and Megan (Justin) Zimmer; son, Donald (Patricia) Jensen of St. Paul, their children, Carla Jensen, Don Dale Jensen, and George (Tonya) Jensen and their 3 children; and daughter, Linda (Kent) Poss of Cotesfield and their children, Chasatti (Michael) Pritchard and their 2 children, Jessica Krzycki and 1 child and Weston Poss.  She is also survived by a brother, Everett Portis of Corpus Christi, TX and a sister, Gayle (Daryl) Moravec of Kearney.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Donald Cecil Jensen and Frank Tuma; a grandson, Troy Kowalski; sister, Mavis Springer and a brother, Dale Portis.
