William "Billy" Arnold Spangler

William “Billy” A. Spangler, 52 of Grand Island, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 12, 2021 in Grand Island.

Visitation will be from 3-6 P.M. on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul.  A Celebration of Billy’s life will follow at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  A private burial will be held at a later date.  Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

Billy was born on June 9, 1968 in Atlanta, Georgia to Gordon & Janie Marie (Wilson) Spangler. He spent his childhood years until he was 8 years old in Atlanta. He moved to Grand Island when he was in his early teens. He went back to Georgia and hitchhiked from Georgia to Grand Island when he was 17. He attended Grand Island Northwest High School and met Sonja Barrera when he was 19. They had a son, Justin. In his adulthood, he spent over a decade in Tennessee and back to Georgia for almost a decade, before making Grand Island his final resting place 5 years ago.

Survivors include his best friend, Sonja Barrera of Grand Island; father and step-mother, Gordon & Evelyn Spangler of Newnan, Georgia; son & daughter-in-law, Justin & Joanna Rhoades of Beloit, KS; brother, James Spangler of Grand Island; sister, Mary Ann Raymond of Newnan, Georgia; aunt, Bonnie Kayler of Griffin, Georgia; half-brothers, Anthony & Brian; numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins.

Billy was preceded in death by his mother, Janie Marie Schommer; grandmother, Betty Marie Wilson; aunt, Judy Kuskie; & uncle, Ronnie Wilson.
