William E. Lyions

December 24, 1948 — January 20, 2017

William E. Lyions, Jr., 68, of Wolbach died Friday, January 20, 2017 in Omaha.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Wolbach.  Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate.  Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lyions was born December 24, 1948 in St. Paul to William and Ethel (Henke) Lyions, Sr.

Bill attended a country school south of Greeley before attending Wolbach schools where he graduated in 1969.

After graduation, Bill worked at the Wolbach Schools and then Farwell Schools.

He then worked at Monfort before returning to employment at the Wolbach Schools.

Bill was united in marriage to Deb Lindsley on September 11, 1999 at the United Methodist Church in Wolbach.  The couple lived in Wolbach where Bill continued to work at the school until his recent retirement.

Bill loved the outdoors and farming.  Bill’s parents had a few acres near Scotia where he farmed and raise calves.

He loved to attend farm auctions, Husker Harvest Days, county fairs, go for walks on farms and enjoy the outdoors.  He collected miniature International tractors.

Bill was active in the town, collecting cans to give the money for children’s saving accounts.  He was a great supporter of the school.  Besides working there, he drove the bus picking up children for many years and driving children to school activities, loving to interact with the kids.

He was active and took great pride in his church and he liked to help wherever he could including donating blood for many years.

Bill liked Husker games, deer hunting and he loved history.

He was very involved in family activities and sporting events.

He also liked to listen to the Big Joe Polka Show on the radio every weekend.

Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wolbach, Wolbach Community Club and the School Booster Club.

Survivors include his wife, Deb of Wolbach; two daughters, Tabatha Freeman and her husband, Joel of Wolbach and Chelsey Lindsley and her significant other, Amy Petry of Omaha; six grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Lyions and his wife, Heather of Wolbach and his beloved dog, Shay.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Shawn Sack.
