Wayne Weiss, 91, of Boelus, died Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday at First Baptist Church in Dannebrog. The Reverend Rob Pearson will officiate.
Interment will be held in Ebenezer Cemetery with military honors at graveside by Schipman-Mogensen American Legion Post #201 of Boelus.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the church in Dannebrog. A time for sharing stories will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Open Door Baptist Missions designated to Anita's House Children's Home, of which is a ministry of Alvin & Sharon Weiss in Mexico.
Mr. Weiss was born December 1, 1923 to Fred and Esther (Kruse) Weiss in Boelus, Nebraska.
He attended school and graduated from Boelus High School.
He entered the United States Army on May 21, 1945 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was honorably discharged December 27, 1946 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
After he returned home to Boelus from the military, he began farming as a dairy farmer.
He was united in marriage to Alice Duncan on May 26, 1948. To this union two sons were born.
Wayne bought the family farm near Boelus and raised cattle and crops. He loved his work and was a lifelong farmer.
He retired from farming, but still came to the farm every day to help.
Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog and a member of the Schipman-Mogensen American Legion Post #201 of Boelus and a member of The Gideon's International.
He had the best mechanical skills and could just about fix anything. When he got some time off from work, he enjoyed fixing cars, singing and playing music on the violin, dulcimer and the guitar. He always had a love for animals especially dogs and cats. He loved his work on the farm and was known by many for his hard work.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Alice of Grand Island; two sons & daughters-in-law, Wesley & Jackie Weiss of Omaha and Alvin & Sharon Weiss of Cuernavaca, Mexico; seven grandchildren, Amy Weberg, Andrew Weiss, Jonathan Weiss, Alicia Weiss, Susanna Poeffel, Rachel Quattlebaum and Melissa Gallo; 15 great grandchildren; one brother & sister-in-law, Jerome & Lolita Weiss of Grand Island; two sisters & brother-in-law, Beverly & Gerald Arnold of Shelton, NE and Marilyn Gabriel of Gig Harbor, WA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gene Weiss, two sisters, Vernelle Tomich and Betty Lee Compton.
