Wayne V. Jorgensen, 92, of Dannebrog died Friday, August 05, 2011 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday at Faith Lutheran-St. Peder's Church at Nysted with the Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakridge Cemetery with military honors at graveside by the Mickelsen Larkowski American Legion Post #241 of Dannebrog and the United States Air Force Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Wayne was born August 11, 1918 in Dannebrog, Nebraska to Viggo & Carrie (Hansen) Jorgensen.
He grew up in Dannebrog. He graduated from Boelus High School in 1935.

He worked briefly for the Island Supply Company and Diamond Engineering Company after graduating from high school.

Wayne was united in marriage to Mabel Lemburg on February 14, 1940 at Clay Center, Nebraska.

He attended Engineering College in Ohio for two years.

Wayne entered the United States Air Force in November 1942 at Fort Crook, Nebraska. He received an appointment as an Aviation Cadat in 1942 and graduated as a multi-engine pilot.

He flew in 28 combat missions with the 14th AF in China during WWII. He flew with the Strategic Air Command during the Korean War. He graduated from the AF school of Engineering after the Korean War was over and continued to serve the Air Force in various capacities which included a tour of duty with the 580th Air Resupply and Communications Wing stationed at Tripoli. He completed a tour of duty with the military assistance advisory group in Taiwan and a tour of duty as Aide-de-camp to the chief of the military mission in Denmark.

After retiring from the Air Force on October 30, 1978, and he continued to work in an engineering capacity as a partner in Lake States Associates, Architects and Engineers, Inc., in Lansing, Michigan.

He spent his last years in complete retirement, fishing whenever possible. He liked to read non-fiction books and enjoyed semi classical music.

He was a lifelong member of the Elk's Club and the VFW in Grand Island, as well as the Masonic & Shrine Temples in Marquette, Michigan. He was also a member of the Mickelsen Larkowski American Legion Post #241 of Dannebrog.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Duane Bolt of Hewitt, TX; two grandchildren and their spouses, Alexandra and Michael Bayer and Ryan and Laura Bolt; three great-grandchildren; two half brothers, Ray Johnson of Grand Island and Howard Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters-in-laws, Doris Obermiller and her husband Don of Grand Island and Ada Ashby of Alliance; and brothers-in-law and their spouses, Russel and Charlene Lemburg of Dannebrog, Roger and Yvonne Lemburg of Morrow Bay, CA and Roland and Joan Lemburg of Rocklin, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mabel on April 10, 2004.
