Wayne was born December 30, 1923 to William and Clara Cook in Carnes, Nebraska.

In 1927, his family moved to the farm one mile east of North Loup. He continued to reside, work or have morning coffee there until 2012.

He attended school in Scotia, Nebraska and graduated from Scotia High School in 1939. After graduation he worked at the North Loup Creamery until he turned 19 and could enlist with the Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees). He participated in the Battle of Tarawa and after the Japanese surrendered, he ended his tour in Nagasaki, Japan.

Wayne returned to North Loup after his discharge from the Navy and began to farm. He rented his first ground from Vern Robbins.

He was united in marriage to Sylvia Ingerson in 1953 and was married for 29 years, having a daughter Marilyn and a son Todd. In 1985, he married Thelma Goodrich Burns and they were married for 25 years.

In 1992 his retirement was marked by slowing down to 60 hour work weeks during the farming season. Wayne remained active in farming with his son and later his grandson until his health would not allow it at age 87.

A more devout Husker fan would be hard to find. He held season tickets for 52 years and his home was easily identified by the big red "N" on his garage door and the radio blasting in the tractor picking corn on game days. He loved spending time with his great grandchildren and going to all of their activities. He enjoyed his time playing the card games 21 and pinochle with his North Loup buddies. Farming was his joy. Wayne loved springtime and couldn't wait to get to work in the fields. He had an appreciation of anyone who could plant straight rows without the use of GPS. His yard and garden were impeccable and he loved to share his produce with the people of North Loup, but the same couldn't be said for his truck "old blue".

Wayne was a proud member of the Ralph R. Rich American Legion Post #285. He was very proud to accompany fellow veterans to Washington DC on the American Legion Honor Flight in April 2009.

In 2012, he moved to Chandler, Arizona to be closer to his children.

Wayne is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Marilyn & Tim Faggionato of Tempe, AZ; his son & daughter-in-law, Todd & Kay Cook of Gilbert, AZ; a stepson Michael Burns and his wife Londa of Ahwatukee, AZ; stepdaughter, Jill and her husband Steve Arrasmith of Caldwell, ID; seven grandchildren, Tory & spouse Randy Wadas of North Loup, Nathan Arrasmith & spouse Jan, Seth & spouse Kim Arrasmith all of Middleton, ID, Brandon & spouse Brytten Sorgenfrei of Lincoln, Jerad & spouse Brea Sorgenfrei of Scottsdale, AZ, John Burns of Hunnington Beach, CA and Stephanie Burns of LaJolle, CA; and ten great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, wife Thelma, grandchildren, Andrea, John and Danny Bergman and a great granddaughter Morgan Arrasmith.
