Warren L. Townsend

Warren Townsend, 83, of St. Paul was welcomed into the arms of his Savior after a long illness on October 25, 2011 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul with military rites given by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Hospice or the family's choice.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Warren Lee Townsend was born August 10, 1928 at the family farm north of St. Paul, Nebraska to Andrew & Carrie (Schow) Townsend.

He attended rural country school from grade school to the 8th greade. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1945.

Warren worked various jobs for two years. He was employed by Frontier Airlines and Boeing Aircraft where he worked on the KC-135 tanker aircraft.

He enlisted into the United States Air Force in December 1949. He worked on the B-47's. Warren was discharged in July 1951.
After discharge from the military, Warren came back to St. Paul to farm.

Warren L. was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marjorie Allen on April 25, 1960 at Wolbach, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Lisa, Holly and Von.

He loved the land and for the rest of his life he farmed with his brother Darold on the family farm north of St. Paul.

Warren was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. He also was a member of St. Paul Farmers Union Co-op and St. Paul Elevator Co-op. He served on the Rural Fire Board for 40 years; served as a St. Mark's Lutheran Church Deacon and served on the District 21 School Board.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, woodworking and gardening. Warren had a "sweet tooth" for desserts and could never pass up desserts or sweets. His family was priority to him and he enjoyed the holidays and other family functions with them. Warren was also an avid Husker football fan.

Warren is survived by his wife, Marjorie of St. Paul; a son & daughter-in-law, Von & Tracy Townsend; two daughters & son-in-law, Lisa Townsend and Holly & Scott LeGros; four grandchildren, Meagan Cinfel and her husband Ryan, Danielle LeGros, Brittany Townsend & Trevor LeGros; one brother, Darold & Ellamae Townsend; a sister-in-law, Faye Townsend; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a special niece Camille Townsend, a sister Evelyn Rasmussen, and three brothers, Howard, Marvin & Orville Townsend.
