Virginia Justesen, 89, of Cushing, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at Tiffany Square in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Carolyn Hellerich will officiate. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Virginia was born September 4, 1922 to Nels and Nellie (Nilsson) Johanson in St. Paul, Nebraska.
She attended grade school at Bunker Hill and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1940.
Virginia was united in marriage to Francis Justesen on March 5, 1941 in Grand Island, Nebraska. To this union four children were born.
The couple made their home on the farm near Cushing.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cushing in 1952.
She worked as a homemaker while raising their children.
Virginia was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul and the Ladies Group at the church. She also was a member of The Live & Learn Extension Club.
Virginia enjoyed sewing and embroidery projects, candle wicking and ceramics. She loved baking apple pies and cinnamon rolls for her family, neighbors and friends. Her baked sugar cookies were a specialty and were enjoyed especially by her grandchildren. Virginia also made lemon bars and lemon cake in which was enjoyed by Francis. She also canned produce from her large garden that was planted every year. She enjoyed neighbors and friends who would stop to see her and Francis, always making sure they would have coffee and baked goods ready for those who stopped for some visiting. Her children remember all the dedication she put into the laundry and cleaning of their home to make sure it was nice and tidy.
She is survived by her husband Francis, one son & daughter-in-law, Gary & Kay Justesen of Lake Preston, SD; three daughters & sons-in-law, Diann & Terry Tallon of Malcolm, NE, Joan & John Oeltjen of Palmer, NE, and Kathy & John Herbig of Elba, NE; five grandsons and spouses, David & Kristie Tallon, Lynn & Nicki Justesen, Jeff & Steph Justesen, Justin & Louise Herbig and David Herbig; seven granddaughters and spouses, Karen Jolliffe, Sheri & Galen Glause, Angie & Mike Pacheco, Kelly & David Anderson, Michelle Oeltjen, Kristie & John Fignar and Dawinelle & Jeremy Strong; thirteen great grandsons, eight great granddaughters and three great great grandchildren & several nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, John, Al, Jim and Gus Johanson, five sisters Alva Rosburg, Annie Teng, Margaret Lacy, Irene Caudill and Helen Nelson.
