Virgil Becker, 90, of St. Paul passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at The Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate.
Inurnment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul with military honors at graveside by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.
A time to greet the family will be held on Friday, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul , St. Paul EMT's, St. Paul Fire Department, Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul, or The Howard Country Historical Society.
Virgil was born April 22, 1923 to Ernest & Effie (Nelson) Becker north of St. Paul, Nebraska.
He attended District 33 and then attended St. Paul High School and graduated in 1941. After graduation he worked with the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Omaha, later returning to St. Paul to farm with his father.
In 1945 he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Virgil was united in marriage to Loretta Dankert on September 9, 1945 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
The couple later returned to the farm where Virgil raised crops and cattle. He also did custom corn shelling and trucking.
Virgil loved to visit with people.
Virgil was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 both of St. Paul.
He is survived by his sister, Margie Cook of Omaha, three grandchildren, Cheryl of Santa Fe, Richard of Portland, and Lindsey of Council Bluffs and her two children Buddy and Danika.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Loretta, a daughter Linda, a son Gayle (Bob) and a brother-in-law, Jim Cook.
