Valnetta Casey, 91, of Dannebrog died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be held in Oakridge Cemetery in Dannebrog. Viewing will be held prior to the service.
Memorials are suggested to the Senior Center in St. Paul, Howard County Medical Center or to the Valley County Home Health & Hospice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
Valnetta was born June 9, 1919 to Andrew & Marie (Nielsen) Miller at home in Dannebrog.
She grew up at Dannebrog and attended school there. In 1944, she graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing. She was a military nurse during World War II. She held two nursing licenses, Nebraska and Texas.
Valnetta was united in marriage to Howard Casey on April 26, 1957 at Deming, New Mexico.
The couple moved to Texas and made their home there. Valnetta worked for Dr. Malcolm Thomas, a vascular surgeon, and was very dedicated to her nursing career; working for 27 years.
After her husband retired, the couple remained in Texas until moving to Dannebrog in July of 2002.
Valnetta enjoyed pot gardening and flowers. She also enjoyed traveling when she was younger.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog and was very active in the Lutheran Church in Texas, as well as active in the church choir.
Survivors include two daughters & son-in-law; Patsy and Webster McEvoy of Deer Park, TX and Sue Cullum of Irving, Texas; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and nieces Edna Verley of St. Paul and Annette Williams of San Antonio, TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard on December 15, 2002, brothers Earl Miller and Arnold Miller and a sister Marguerite Eby.
