Valentine S. Cyboron, 93, of Grand Island died Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at Resurrection Catholic Church, 4130 Cannon Road in Grand Island. Reverend Mike McDermott will officiate. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island with military honors by Schipman Mogensen American Legion Post #201 of Boelus.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice for a designation to be determined at a later date. Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangments.
Mr. Cyboron was born July 8, 1921 at Boelus to John and Leona (Czapla) Cyboron. He was raised near Boelus and attended rural school District #28. Val then attended Boelus High School where he graduated in 1940.
After graduation he moved to Colorado where he worked with his brother Adolph on a dairy farm.
Val enlisted in the Army Air Corp on November 11, 1941. During World War II he served on several bases in Europe and Africa. He worked with inspections on the B17 Bomber. Upon his return to the United States on September 1, 1944 he was assigned to a base in Texas. He received his discharge on September 9, 1945.
After his discharge, he moved to Boelus where he worked at the International Implement dealership in Boelus for John Christensen as a mechanic.
He was united in marriage to Fern Bremer on November 25, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville. The couple lived at Boelus until 1957 when they moved to a farm north of Boelus. Along with the lifelong occupation of farming, Val work for a few years at the sugar beet factory in Grand Island. He also farmed with his brother Ray.
In 1977, the couple moved to a farm east of Rockville.
Val and Fern moved to Grand Island in 1991 and in 2009 they moved to the Primrose Retirement Community in Grand Island.
Val enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, Husker football, playing bingo and he even called bingo at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville. He also played the harmonica. Val and Fern enjoyed attending the Ainsworth music festival for a number of years.
Family was very important to Val. He was a good Christian man with a strong faith. He was also known for being a quiet man who had a good sense of humor.
He was a past member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville and is a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Grand Island, the Schipman-Mogensen American Legion Post #201 of Boelus and he was a past board member of the Nysted Farmers Insurance.
Survivors include his wife, Fern of Grand Island; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Marilyn Cyboron of Boelus; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Jeanette (Jeannie) Hulme of Scottsdale, AZ, Sharon (Sherrie) Schwartz of Omaha, Valda (Val) and Lee Lanka of Grand Island and Lois and Arlan Jr. Lauritsen of Omaha; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Rose Marie Cyboron of Grand Island.
Val is preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandchildren, Joseph Cyboron and Randall Hulme; 6 brothers, Leonard, Stanley, Adolph, John, Ray and Benny Cyboron; 3 sisters, Laura Hansen, Elnora Emerson, and Mary Ann Plambeck; an infant sister, Barbara Cyboron; and 2 sons-in-law, Jim Hulme and Gregg Schwartz.
