Trilby Berger, 106, of Dannebrog died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Edgewood Vista in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at the First Baptist Church Family Center in Dannebrog. The Reverend Barry Arndt will officiate. Burial will be held in the Loup Fork Cemetery near Boelus. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Trilby was born June 7, 1904 in St. Paul to Mads & Marie (Clausen) Hansen.
She spent her childhood years on the farm north of Boelus and attended grade school in District 66 north of Boelus.
She attended St. Paul Business College. Trilby then studied to be a teacher there for two terms and also spent two summers in Kearney and Grand Island furthering her education to be a teacher. She taught several years in District 37 in Howard County near Dannebrog.
Trilby was united marriage to Preston Berger on December 12, 1928 in Grand Island, Nebraska. To this union one son, Dwayne was born.
They lived their entire married life on a farm near Dannebrog. During World War II she worked at the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant for about 18 months.
After the death of her husband, Preston in 1968, she lived on the family farm and did housekeeping work for elderly people in Grand Island, Wood River, Cairo, Ravenna and St. Paul.
She moved into Dannebrog in 1970 where she lived until moving to Matelyn Retirement Community in St. Paul in 2005. In 2010 she moved to Edgewood Vista in Grand Island where she resided until her death.
Trilby was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dannebrog.
She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening and raising beautiful flowers.
She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Dwayne & Charlene Berger of Dannebrog; six grandchildren, Rod and Lisa Berger of Grant, Bryan Berger of Grand Island, Jeff and Dianne Berger of Phoenix, Doug and Laurene Brown of Omaha, Colleen Brown of Council Bluffs and Jeremy and Yara Brown of Columbus; great grandchildren; and nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Preston, brothers Landis Hansen & Raymond Hansen, a sister Vivian Feddersen and a grandson Jack Berger.
