Todd W. Speece, 62, of Grand Island died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at his home in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverends Randy Fett and Will Perrigan will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the Norfolk Rescue Mission.
Todd was born December 29, 1947 in York, Nebraska to Roy and Catherine (Wise) Speece.
Todd graduated from York Public Schools in 1966. Upon graduation, he attended Wayne State College where he received his degree and teaching certification in 1970.
He was united in marriage to Anita George on August 23, 1969 in York. The couple moved to St. Paul where Todd coached football and track, taught Biology, and later served as the Athletic Director for St. Paul High School. Todd and Anita moved to Grand Island in 1999.
Todd retired from teaching at St. Paul in 2003, but nonetheless continued his involvement in education, most recently teaching and coaching at Heartland Lutheran School in Grand Island until May 2010. He also maintained his interest in track and regularly officiated at the Nebraska State Track Meet.
Todd was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island and the Nebraska School Activities Association.
Todd was an avid reader and history buff and took particular interest in Native American history of the Plains Indians. Todd enjoyed spending time with his family and loved being a grandpa.
Todd include his wife, Anita of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Preston and Kendra Speece of Omaha and Brett and Jill Speece of Fairmont; one daughter, Lyndsay Speece and her fiancé©, Mohamed Doray of Chicago; three grandchildren, Jackson, Eleanor and Isaac; and one sister, Peggy Speece Farney and her husband, Dennis of Kansas City, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Catherine.
