d. January 16, 2015

Thomas "Tommy" H. Wallin, 86, of Scotia, Nebraska, died Friday, January 16, 2015, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

Memorial services will be held at 7 pm on Monday, January 19th at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia with the Rev. Mark Middendorf officiating. His body was cremated and will be inurned at a later date. Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for later designation or to the donor's choice.

Tommy was born September 11, 1928, in Central City, Nebraska, to Hilmer and Ema (Hannigan) Wallin. The family farmed in Merrick and Loup Counties. Tommy attended schools in both counties and graduated from Loup County High School in 1946.

He enlisted in the Navy, serving from June 1946 until June 1948. As a Yeoman Third Class, he was stationed primarily in California.

On February 4, 1950, he married Berneice Olson at the Methodist parsonage in Burwell. To this union, a daughter, Barbara, was born. They made their home in the Taylor area until they moved to Scotia in 1953, where they farmed and fed cattle. Berneice passed away on February 9, 2006, and Tommy continued to live on the farm until the time of his death.

Tommy and Berniece were organizational leaders of the Tail Twisters 4-H Club, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. He served on the Scotia Public School board and was involved in the Howard Co. Feeders & Breeders. He enjoyed going to cattle sales and checking pastures on horseback. His love for all these activities was overshadowed by his love for his grandchildren.

Tommy was baptized and confirmed as a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia.

He is survived by his daughter Barb (Terry) Christensen of North Loup; granddaughter Tara (Cody) Naprstek of Lexington; grandson Bradley (Melissa) Christensen of Columbus; and great-grandchildren Trevor and Mallery Schultz, also from Columbus. Additional survivors include his sister, Sarah (Bill) Putters of Pensacola, Florida; an aunt, Nona Wallin of Omaha; sister-in-laws Clara Smolik of Alma, Audrey Olson of Newport, Alice Ann Olson of Omaha, and Helen Wilson of Blair; and a brother-in-law Ralph Olson of Lincoln.
