Thelma G. Henderson

Thelma G. Henderson, 97, of Seward, formerly of Palmer died Monday, February 2, 2015 at Heartland Park in Seward, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday at United Methodist Church in Palmer. The Reverends Martin Leeper and Tamara Holtz will officiate. Burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Thursday at Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer.

Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Henderson was born December 2, 1917 in Craig, Colorado to Thomas & Cente (Burgess) Pratt.

She was raised in Rising City where she attended a rural school and graduated from Rising City High School in 1935.

Thelma was united in marriage to Bernard Samuelson on July 28, 1936.

The couple lived on a farm northeast of Palmer.

She worked for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and Delicious Foods in Grand Island.

Bernard passed away on October 19, 1985 and Thelma continued to live on the farm for another 10 years. She moved to Utica in 1996.

Thelma was united in marriage to Wesley Henderson on June 7, 1997 in Utica, Nebraska.

She worked for Pioneer Seed in Doniphan and then went to work in York until was 93 years old.

Wesley passed away on October 21, 2011. In 2012, Thelma moved to Seward.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Utica and a former member of the United Methodist Church in Palmer. She was active in the Legion Auxiliary in Palmer and Utica. She taught Sunday School in Palmer. She was also active in the Village Homemaker Club for many years, and a member of the Good Star Sister and former member of the Eagles Club in Grand Island.

Thelma enjoyed playing cards as her favorite game was Pitch. She enjoyed traveling to Branson, camping at Bader Lake, gardening, working puzzles and cryptograms and loved to drink coffee.
She is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Michael & Susie Samuelson of Eagle; a daughter & son-in-law, LuAnn & Marshall Bruns of Waco; six grandchildren and their spouses, Grant & Holly Bruns, Brittany Bruns, Katie Bruns, Joshua & Brook Samuelson, Rachel & Andrew Carlson, Sarah & Paul Clark; seven great grandchildren.

Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Bernard Sameulson and Wesley Henderson, two brothers, Lillard Pratt and Randall Pratt and one sister Naomi Samuelson.
