Sylvia A. Sack

June 23, 1927 — September 14, 2015

Sylvia A. Sack, 88, of Grand Island, formerly of St. Paul died Monday, September 14, 2015 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul.  Reverends Rayappa Konka and Ray Kosmicki will officiate.  Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.

Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul with a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.

Mrs. Sack was born June 23, 1927 in Omaha to Joseph and Agnes (Roza) Pavlik.

Sylvia was raised in Omaha and graduated from Omaha South High School in 1943 at the age of 16.  She then attended and graduated from Omaha Business College in 1944.

She worked for Roberts Dairy in Omaha as a payroll supervisor for 5 years.

The couple met at a dance at Sokol Hall in Omaha while Roy was in Omaha visiting his mother in a hospital.  Roy enjoyed dancing and while in Omaha went to the dance at Sokol Hall where he met Sylvia.  Roy attended many dances in Omaha, even driving over planks on Highway 92 where the road had washed out.  After the couple was married they attended many dances over the years at the Eagle’s Club, Lederkrancz, and Sokol Hall.

Sylvia was united in marriage to Roy Sack on November 4, 1950 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Omaha.

The couple made their home and farmed southwest of St. Paul.  Sylvia helped Roy on the farm and she raised many chickens that she sold as fryers and eggs.  They moved into St. Paul in 1980.  They cleaned St. Paul Equipment for10 years retiring in 1990.

Sylvia also enjoyed embroidery and sewing and was a great seamstress.  She was also a very good baker.  She loved flowers, especially roses.  On television she liked to watch David Letterman, the World Series and Sunday Mass.  She would listen to Big Joe Polka Show and the Country Classics radio programs.  Sylvia also liked to put puzzles together, doing many of them over the years.

Sylvia especially enjoyed the visits when Sister Maria was associated with Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and would come to visit.

She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Altar Society of St. Paul and a former member of the Grand Island Eagle’s Club and Lederkranz.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Howard Jensen of Dannebrog; three grandchildren, Valerie J. Jensen and Jim Sandquist and his daughter Jamie of Grand Island, Vicki M. Sims of Torrance, CA, and Vincent H. Jensen and his wife, Deidre of Dannebrog; one great-grandson, Lucas Sims.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roy on January 9, 2003.
