Shirley Thompson, 74, of St. Paul died Monday, October 31, 2011 at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. The Reverend Randy Dilts will officiate. Interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Shirley was born April 21, 1937 at Cinncinati, Iowa to Charles & Neoma (Richmond) Lawson.
She was raised in Cincinnati, Iowa and attended school there. She graduated in 1954.

Shirley was united in marriage to Robert Thompson on November 7, 1953 at Exline, Iowa. Shirley took care of her family working as a homemaker.
The couple moved to Unionville, Missouri and then to several towns in Central Nebraska. They lived in Phillips for several years and in 1974 the couple moved to St. Libory where they owned the Lone Tree Gas Station. Shirley worked at Miller & Paine.

In 1976 they moved to St. Paul and she worked as a cook at the Uptown Grill. She then worked at Heritage Living Center until the couple bought the Uptown Grill café© in 1989 where she cooked. She retired from the café© in August 1996.
After retirement from the café©, Shirley then worked at the Howard County Community Hospital for several years.

Shirley was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed flowers, cooking, baking breads and pies, with sour cream raisin being her specialty. She enjoyed traveling and going places, camping and sewing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and having lunch at House of Memories in St. Paul.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Robert of St. Paul; three sons, Ed Thompson of Omaha, Ron Thompson & Jim Thompson both of St. Paul; two daughters, Pat Placke of Phillips and Cheryl Allard of St. Paul; 27 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; three brothers & sisters-in-law, Dean & Dee Lawson, Ted & Patty Lawson and Dennis & Vickie Lawson, all of Cincinnati, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Doretta Mae Lawson Glascock; and one brother, Michael and an infant brother.
