S. Robert Gilpin, 73, of Palmer died Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
There will not be any services held for Mr. Gilpin. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach.
Memorials are suggested to the Palmer American Legion or to the donor?s choice in care of Bonnie Gilpin, 79808 WPA Ave., Wolbach, NE 68882.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in Wolbach is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gilpin was born November 23, 1933 in Carson, Iowa to Roy and Elma (Morris) Gilpin. He was raised and attended school in Carson. He graduated from Carson High School in 1952. He then worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Brumley on March 21, 1953 in Carson, IA.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy, receiving his discharge on June 26, 1957. After receiving his discharge from the Navy he entered the U.S. Air Force and served until June 26, 1961.
He was united in marriage to Bonnie Caudill on December 26, 1974 in St. Paul.
He then worked in the trucking business. He enlisted in the National Guard, serving until March 10, 1983. Robert farmed and continued to do trucking and he worked for Dinsdale?s at the feed yard in Palmer.
Robert enjoyed playing golf.
Surviors include a son, Michael Gilpin of Garden City, KS; a daughter, Shanna Kennison of Hailey, ID; two step-sons, Allen Caudill of San Antonio and Marvin Caudill of Wolbach; three step-daughters, Lorraine Vitek of Wolbach, Carol Poss of Grand Island and Lois Nordhues of Greeley; twenty-three grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a former daughter-in-law, Rita Gilpin; a brother, Jerry Gilpin of Carson, IA and a sister, Jimmy Randolf of Lebanon, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kimberly Kennison; and two brothers, Jack and Nick Gilpin.
