Russel E. Hansen

Russel E. Hansen, 78, of St. Paul died Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at CHI-St. Francis in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul.  Reverend Carolyn Hellerich will officiate.  Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Litchfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Mr. Hansen was born August 31, 1937 in Farwell to Edison and Mary (Lassen) Hansen.

Russel was raised in Litchfield and attended District 25 school in Sherman County.  He then attended Litchfield High School where he graduated in 1955.  Russel attended Kearney State College and then began to work for Rockwell in the toolshop in Kearney.

Russel volunteered for the United States Army in 1959.  He was stationed in France for 30 months.  He received his discharge in 1962.

He returned to Kearney and again worked at Rockwell for 2 more years.  He later worked in the cafeteria at Kearney State College until 1973.  He drove a taxi in Kearney from 1977-1979 and did yard work in Kearney until 1982.

In 1984 he retired and moved to St. Paul with his father.

He moved to Matelyn Retirement Community in St. Paul in December of 2007.

Russel enjoyed listening to Nebraska football games, take walks and go for drives.  He had a good memory, remembering events that occurred 50 years back and he always had a smile on his face.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119, both of St. Paul.

Survivors include many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
