Ruben Meyer, 81, of St. Paul, formerly of Wolbach died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Carolyn Hellerich will officiate. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery north of Shelton, Nebraska. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Ruben was born July 25, 1930 in rural Shelton, Nebraska to Edwin and Wilhelmine (Ahrens) Meyer.
Ruben was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended parochial school through 8th grade which was held at Zion Lutheran Church north of Shelton.
He was united in marriage to Arlene Luebbe on August 31, 1958 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church rural Seward County, Nebraska. They made their home north of Shelton where they lived. To this union they were blessed with five boys and two girls.
He knew from a young age what hard work was. Being the oldest boy in his family; Arlene recalls him telling her how he helped his father harness horses for the days work and the many tasks he did on the farm.
Ruben was a farmer, worked in sale barns, Cornhusker Ammunition Plant, Wilson Concrete, Wood River alfalfa mill and many years for Gibbon Pack where he then retired.
In 1990, Ruben and Arlene moved to an acreage outside of Wolbach where they raised many pet animals. Ruben took children; especially grandchildren for rides with his team of horses and even team of mules.
In 2010 their move was into St. Paul where he lived in Heritage Living Center and his wife near by.
After retirement years he loved to make Ham and Bean soup that was very tasty. He also enjoyed gardening, his horses and his mules.
Ruben and Arlene were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach.
He leaves to mourn his wife Arlene of 53+ years, five sons and daughters-in-law, Arlan & Jenette Meyer of Shelton; Byron & Kimberly Meyer of Louisville, KY; Wendall & Ann Meyer of Bismarck, N.D; Craig & Meagan Meyer of Charlotte, NC and Dwayne & Tara Meyer of Elkhorn, NE; two daughters & sons-in-law, Brenda & Roger Rasmussen of Ravenna and Gaylene & Mark Schmit of Alpharetta, GA; sixteen grandchildren, Jeremiah and Johanna Meyer; Marissa and Justin Meyer; Anthony Meyer; Chelsea & Nathan Djanovic; Tyler, Micaela, Sydney and Jackson Meyer; Samuel Meyer; Josiah, Matthew Kirby & fiancee Aspen Clark; and Alyssa Kirby; and Cassandra and Danielle Schmit; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vernetta & Roy Trubl of Kearney and June & Kenneth Kirschner of Ravenna and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy and Garnett Meyer and a sister Loretta Arnold.
