Robert L. Swanson, 63, of Farwell died Monday, September 19, 2011 near Farwell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday at First Baptist Church in Dannebrog. The Reverend Barry Arndt will officiate. Burial will be held in Oakridge Cemetery in Dannebrog. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. with a family & friend service at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at the church in Dannebrog.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog or to the Farwell QRT's & Fire Department.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
Rob was born to Leonard and Doris Swanson July 17, 1948 in St. Paul, Nebraska
He graduated from Chambers High School in Chambers, Nebraska in 1966. He attended St. Paul Bible College in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated in 1971 with a B.A. in History.
He married Patricia Stensgaard on June 21st 1969. They moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska where he was employed by Great Western Sugar. In 1972 their daughter Julie was born. In 1973 they moved to Dannebrog, Nebraska where they began farming. In 1974 their oldest son Michael was born. In 1979 they moved to Farwell, Nebraska where he farmed and raised cattle. In 1991 Rob and Pat adopted their children David, Amber and Rachael.
Rob was an active member of First Baptist Church of Dannebrog where he was actively involved in numerous ministries. He especially enjoyed children's ministries. Rob loved spending time with his family, he enjoyed raising his cattle, golfing, husker football, and he was a good neighbor and friend to all.
Survivors include his wife Pat; daughter Julie and her husband Justin Halbgewachs of Kearney, NE, son Michael and his wife Amy of Farwell, NE, son David and his wife Kirbie of Kearney, NE, daughter Amber of Heartwell, NE, daughter Rachael of Snyder, NE; grandchildren; Josie Caleb and Carly Halbgewachs; Shelby, Sophie, Hannah, Jacob, Samuel and Meghan Swanson; Eliza, Caden and Milla Finken; one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Mary Swanson of Newport, NE and one sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Lee Muhr of Gering.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and an infant son.
