Ricky E. Jackson, 45, of Polk died unexpectedly Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Wesleyan Church in Palmer. The Reverends Tim Wilson and L. Ford Shenk will officiate. Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

A time to visit with the family will be held on Sunday, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.

Ricky was born April 2, 1969 in Atwood, KS to Phillip and Donna (Clayburg) Jackson.

The family lived in Atwood for two years before moving to Stratton, NE. He attended school in Stratton until the 7th grade. They moved to Doniphan where he went to school through the 9th grade. They went to Mission, TX where they played for the Winter Texans until March 1984.

Ricky then earned his GED.

He worked for Harv Farm Supply in Giltner, Hansen International Truck in Grand Island and then he did construction work.

In the early 1990's he moved to Reno, NV for a year where he played in a band. In 1994 he moved to Nashville where he played in bands for numerous musicians including Neil McCoy, Reba McIntyre, Tammy Wynette and many more. His stage name was RJ Cannon. He also played at the Grand Ole Opry.

While in Nashville, Ricky made a solo album for Allen Frizzell.

After returning to Nebraska he worked for Hamilton Telecommunications.

Ricky was united in marriage to Kim Pohl on September 18, 2010 in Aurora.

He played in the bands Pure Intensity, Sweet Water and then did solo performing. Recently he loved to play for the residents of nursing homes.

The last few years he did less performing because of his health.

Ricky had a gifted talent of being able to play any stringed instrument and the piano. He could listen to a song and then be able to play it.

He enjoyed fishing, teaching people music and hunting before his illness prevented him from doing it anymore.

He loved being around his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Kim of Polk; two sons, Zachary Ottman of Polk and Dylan and his wife Stephanie Pohl of Hastings; three grandchildren, Ayla Ottman, Hunter Ottman and Damon Pohl; mother and father, Donna and Roy Eckstrom of Palmer; brothers and wives, Troy and Dawn Jackson of Amarillo, TX, Andy Eckstrom of Waverly, Dean and Melissa Eckstrom of Wisconsin, Steve and Tish Eckstrom of Stapleton, and Mark and Selena Eckstrom of Olathe, KS; sisters, Lisa Eckstrom of Waverly and Therese Hoard of Cheyenne, WY; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Pat Pohl of Aurora; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Phillip Jackson; paternal grandparents, Phillip and Irene Jackson; maternal grandparents, William and Ellen Clayburg; a nephew, Ethan Eckstrom and an uncle, Doug Jackson.
