Rhoda L. Jensen, 76, of Cotesfield died Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Cotesfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Martha Voigt will officiate. Interment will be in the Cotesfield Cemetery at Cotesfield. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Rhoda was born August 17, 1934 in Boelus to Elmer and Rebecca (Tockey) Hilmer.
Rhoda was raised in Boelus and attended Boelus schools where she graduated from Boelus High School in 1952. For a short time, Rhoda worked in Grand Island at a flower shop.
She was united in marriage to Virgil Edwards on June 20, 1953 in Belleville, KS, to which four children were born. Rhoda lived in Rockville and Boelus where she was a homemaker. Later she moved to Cotesfield where she lived with her parents.
Rhoda was married to Phillip Jensen on June 6, 1966 in Greeley. The couple lived in Cotesfield. Rhoda ran Rhoda's Corner Bar in Cotesfield for many years. She loved people and always had time to sit and visit with anyone who stopped in. She also had traveled with her husband on the harvesting crews.
Rhoda loved to take care of her grandchildren and she was also a grandmother to many other children.
She enjoyed crocheting, listening to polka and country music, traveling, and playing cards. Rhoda loved the outdoors and its activities including fishing, flowers, bird watching, wildlife, and watching over her cows.
She served on the Cotesfield Village Board for many years.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Elmer "Bud" and RaNae Edwards of Grand Island, Darwin Edwards of Glendive, MT, and Chris Jensen of Cotesfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanna and Thomas Holtz of St. Paul and Rosalyn and Jerome Palacz of Elba; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild with another great-grandchild Rhoda was joyfully waiting for, due in July; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Fred Hilmer of Cotesfield and Riley and Roma Stephenson of Colville, WA; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Carol Jensen of Cotesfield; and a special friend, Oakley Raye of Cotesfield.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; husband, Phillip Jensen on April 18, 1991; two sisters, Isabel Keldsen and Clara Elstermeier and a sister-in-law, LaVonne Hilmer.
