Ray W. Grim, 92, of Dannebrog died Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday at Faith Lutheran-Nysted St. Peder’s Church in Nysted. Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. will officiate. Inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Oakridge Cemetery in Dannebrog with military honors by Mickelsen Larkowski American Legion Post #241 of Dannebrog.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
Mr. Grim was born November 9, 1923 in Cairo to Lemuel F. and Elta V. (Lingford) Grim.
Ray attended Dannebrog School until the 8th grade and then went to work helping his family. Ray drove truck until entering the United States Army on April 15, 1943. He served in the Pacific Theatre on the islands of the Philippines and Bougainville. He was discharged on January 11, 1946.
Ray was united in marriage to Allena Keldsen on September 3, 1946 in Dannebrog.
Ray spent his entire life hauling gravel, grain and livestock. During this time, he owned his trucks hauling gravel and livestock. He drove trucks for Union Grain and Mamot Feed Lots in St. Libory. He also worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island and had his own tree service and later in life popped popcorn at many farm sales.
He enjoyed cutting and splitting wood, recycling old iron and copper and attending family events, especially softball games.
Ray was a member of Faith Lutheran Nysted St. Peder’s Church and was a 50-year member of the Mickelsen Larkowski American Legion Post 241 of Dannebrog.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Edie Grim of Dannebrog, Bugger and Rashelle Grim of Farwell, Tom and Deb Grim of Grand Island, and Steve and Linda Grim of St. Paul; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Nettie and Arnie Schwarz of Prosper, TX, Lynda Hyde of Plano, TX, Nel Martin of Ogallala, and Lydia and Tom Bahensky of Plymouth MI; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Nellie Grim of Grand Island, George and Betty Grim of Texas and Mel and Joyce Grim of Dannebrog.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Allena on January 29, 2009; an infant granddaughter and an infant grandson; brothers, Dean Grim at the age of 6 and Clyde Grim at the age of 2; infant brother, Vern and sister, Audrie at the age of 8; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Bob Reinhardt, Lucille and Charles Fox and Verna and Doyle Wohlers; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnie and Elaine Grim and Leonard and Betty Grim.
