Norman Gallant, 86, of Grand Island, NE, formerly of Columbus, NE died Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island, NE.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - Day Saints in Grand Island. Bishop Klint Butler will officiate. Interment will be held in the Veterans Home Memorial Cemetery in Grand Island. Military rites at graveside will be given by the Grand Island American Legion Post #53. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m., Sunday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul, NE.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Norman was born on April 12, 1925 in Hatfield, MA.
He attended high school. He decided to join the United States Army before graduating from high school. He entered the Army on September 3, 1943. He was wounded and was given the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on July 20, 1945.
In 1950, Norman graduated from high school.
He was married three times and fathered eight children.
Norman was united in marriage to Gretchen Sunday on November 2, 1985 in Denver, CO.
The couple lived in Colorado until 2002. They have lived in Nebraska since. They were married for 25 years.
Norman repaired typewriters and office equipment for 48 years.
He moved to the Grand Island Veterans Home in May 2011.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - Day Saints in Grand Island and member of the Columbus American Legion Post #84 and a past member of Kiwanis.
Norman is survived by wife, Gretchen of St. Paul; daughter & son-in-law, Julie & David Obedoza of CA; a son "Skip" Norman Gallant of CT; daughters & son-in-law, Cathy & Ken Kuemper of VA and Christy Gallant of CO; sons, Tyson Gallant & Peter Gallant of NE; three step daughters, Carrie Whitten & Kelly Zurflah of CO and Cecilia Sunday of FL; a brother Wally Gallant of Springfield, MA; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; and nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clyde Gallant, two children and his first two wives, Theresamae and Nancy.
