Norbert R. Brockmann

Norbert Brockmann, 78 died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the V.A. Medical Center in Grand Island, NE after a short battle with cancer.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran-St. Peder's Church at Nysted. Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. will officiate. A time to greet the family and sign the guestbook will be held on Friday, at 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Inurnment will be at Loup Fork Cemetery near Boelus with military honors by the Mickelsen Larkowski American Legion Post #241 of Dannebrog.

Memorials are suggested to Faith Lutheran-St. Peder's Church at Nysted, the Lower Loup Muzzleloaders Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Norbert was born on February 21, 1933 to Emil and Hattie (Wascher) Brockmann in West Point, Nebraska.
He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Beemer. Norbert graduated from West Point High School in 1951. Norbert joined the United States Navy in 1953. He served on the USS Iowa and Wisconsin and he received his discharge in 1957.

On September 30, 1956, he married Esther Gerike at Zion Lutheran Church in Wisner, Nebraska. The couple was married by Esther's father Pastor Marcus Gerike.

He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1961 with a degree in General Agriculture.

Norbert worked for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission from 1961 until 1969 when he began farming in Dannebrog, Nebraska. He has farmed and worked in farm-related industries since that time.

Norbert was an active member of Faith Lutheran-St. Peder's Church in Nysted and the Lower Loup Muzzleloader's Association.

He enjoyed being outdoors, nature and birds, farming, trees, Cornhusker football and volleyball, traveling in the RV, hunting, muzzleloading, and drinking coffee and talking about the good ole days, but mostly, he loved being around his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, and their four children, Sue Nielsen, and her husband, Lynn of Hastings, Jim Brockmann and his wife, Elizabeth of Santa Fe, NM, Dan Brockmann and his wife, Deb of Dannebrog, and Ron Brockmann of Doniphan; seven grandchildren, Jessie Nielsen, Dustin Belyeu, Jayme Volk, Amye Butcher, Zeb Brockmann, Max Brockmann, and Ben Brockmann; and six great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Eric Fielder, Kiran and Marley Belyeu, and Parker and Easton Volk. Other survivors include sisters, Ivy Berg of Fremont and Mardell Rodgers of Napa, CA,a brother, Mel Brockmann and his wife Marian of West Point, NE, and numerous aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
