Nora M. Swanson, 81, of Grand Island died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Nora's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Chad Boling will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Grand Island.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Nora was born October 10, 1930 at Dannebrog, Nebraska to Jens & Eva (Jackson) Sorensen.
She attended school at Dannebrog and graduated from Dannebrog High School in 1948.
In 1952, Nora was united in marriage to Thomas Sautter. To this union seven children were born Janice, Carrie, Earl, Mark, David, John & Jim.
Nora and her children lived in Cairo from 1962 through 1978.
In 1979, Nora married Robert Swanson in Crawford, Nebraska.
Bob and Nora owned the Silver Dollar Bar in Dannebrog from 1981 until 1984. They resided in Cairo from 1984 until 2001 when they moved to Grand Island.
Nora is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Island, the Platt-Duetsche and Mickelsen-Larkowski American Legion Auxiliary Unit #241 of Dannebrog.
She enjoyed taking care of her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching all kinds of sports particularly volleyball, gymnastics, and Nascar races. She was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles. She was a Den Mother for Boy Scouts for many years.
Nora is survived by her seven children & spouses, Janice & Daniel Trerice, Carrie & Richard Anderson, Earl & Penny Sautter, Mark Sautter, David & Brook Sautter, John Sautter & Jim Sautter; seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; two sister & brother-in-law, Edna Petzoldt of Newell, Iowa and Betty & Harold Schuessler of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob and a step daughter, Cozette Swanson Keys.
