Myrna G. Eilers

December 19, 1942 — January 24, 2016

Myrna G. Eilers, 73, of Palmer died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer.  Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate.  Inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Palmer United Methodist Church

Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Eilers was born December 19, 1942 in Kensington, KS to Earl J. and Ethel M. (Smith) Mills.

Myrna was raised and received her education in Kensington and graduated from Kensington High School in 1960.  After her schooling she moved to Salina, KS where she worked in a hospital as a nurse’s aide.  She then moved to Colorado for a short period of time.

Myrna was united in marriage Henry Eilers on May 24, 1970 in Grand Island at the Abundant Life Christian Center.

The couple lived on a farm north of Palmer.  Myrna worked for the Palmer Journal and the Palmer Co-op Service Station.

Myrna then worked for Econo Foods decorating cakes and later began her own bakery business, Puff ‘N’ Bake Bakery in Grand Island.

Myrna and Henry moved into Palmer in July 1988.

When the couple owned Eiler’s Service Station, Myrna served as the bookkeeper.

Myrna began the After Prom Party concept in Palmer in 1988 as a way for the students to have a safe time after prom.  Myrna and Henry also served as sponsors for the Palmer Senior Class Trips.

She enjoyed doing craftwork, puzzles, latch hook rugs, embroidery and crocheting.  She made and decorated many different types of cakes over the years.

She was a former member of the New Hope Christian Church in Palmer.

Survivors include her husband, Henry of Palmer; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Russell and Christie Eilers and Dan Eilers of Palmer; a daughter, Kenda Buranen of Round Rock, TX; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marvel and Sam Brady of Augusta, WV and Earlene and Forrest Ponto of Lee Summit, MO.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
