William H. "Chuck" "Turkey" Lemmerman, 86, of Palmer died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul at the age of 86 years.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer with military honors by the Burton Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Palmer.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lemmerman was born December 21, 1922 in Palmer to Walter and Mamie (Caudill) Lemmerman.
He was raised and received his education in Fullerton, Wolbach and Palmer. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1940.
Chuck then entered the U.S. Air Force on December 14, 1942. He served with the 40th Fighter Squadron, serving mainly in the South Pacific, Australia and the Philippines. He received his discharge on November 11, 1945.
After receiving his discharge, he returned to Palmer where he was active in the Poultry Farm that his father and brother Richard began and operated. They were also active farmers.
Chuck was united in marriage to Mary Cady on January 1, 1947 in Palmer. The couple lived in Palmer where Chuck continued to farm and work in the family poultry business. Chuck retired in 1980.
He then worked for Dinsdale Elevator on a part time basis. He also worked in Las Vegas part time for a couple of years.
Chuck enjoyed playing cards and golf and fishing. He also enjoyed all types of sports especially football, baseball and basketball. He liked to follow the Nebraska Cornhuskers and St. Louis Cardinals.
He was a member of the Palmer United Methodist Church for over 75 years. He was also a member of the Burton Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer for over 60 years, the Palmer Commercial Club, and the United Methodist Men. He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche and the Riverside Country Club of Grand Island.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Cathy Lemmerman of Palmer; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Lemmerman of Palmer; six grandchildren, Jim, Barb, Bobby, Brenda, Heidi and Shayla; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Carol Lemmerman of Palmer; a sister, Barbara Greenway of Palmer; and a special friend, Donna Grayson of Boulder, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; a son, Bob Lemmerman; and a brother, Bob Lemmerman.
