Mrs. Rose M. Blanchard
June 17, 1907 — August 26, 2008
Rose M. Blanchard, 101, of St. Paul died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Martha Voigt will officiate. Interment will be in Cotesfield Cemetery at Cotesfield. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Cotesfield United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Blanchard was born June 17, 1907 in Cotesfield to Theodore and Katherine (Sohl) Donscheski.
Rose attended Cotesfield Schools where she graduated from high school in 1928.
She was united in marriage to Elwood Blanchard on May 16, 1928 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Dannevirke area and then other farms in central Nebraska. In 1947, the couple returned to the Cotesfield area where they lived until her husband died in 1986. Rose moved to St. Paul where she lived for the rest of her life.
Rose enjoyed baking bread and buns and especially enjoyed crocheting, making a number of different items for family and friends. She also enjoyed playing dice games with her family, cards with friends and neighbors and she like to go places.
Rose was a member of the Cotesfield United Methodist Church and the Cotesfield UMW. She was active in the church and she had served as Sunday School Superintendent.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Eileen Blanchard of Grand Island; three daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy and Don Hughes of Scotia, Velma Crist of Ainsworth and Ellen Zabloudil Moxon of Riverside, CA; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter who was a twin sister of Peggy; and 10 brothers, Theodore, Bill, George and Gus Donscheski; and six sisters, Lena Hild, Emma Borchelt, Annie Rickett, Alma Kanter, Susie Butt, and Pauline Butt.
