Mary Jane Trentman, 84, of St. Libory died Monday, January 26, 2009 at her home near St. Libory.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the St. Libory Catholic Church. The Reverends Larry Coulter and Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. at the church in St. Libory.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Trentman was born June 28, 1924 in Dannevirke, NE to Robert and Anna (Mortensen) Nielsen
She was raised and attended school in the Cotesfield and Dannevirke areas.
Mary Jane was united in marriage to Alphonse Trentman on February 4, 1947 in St. Libory.
The couple lived on the family farm all of their married life. Her husband died on June 17, 1981. Mary Jane continued to live on the farm until 1997 when she moved to Grand Island. In April 2006, she moved back to St. Libory where she lived with her daughter Marlene.
While living in Grand Island, Mary Jane was active in the foster grandparent program at St. Francis Daycare.
She enjoyed babysitting and was known as "grandma" to many children. Mary Jane was a great cook and baker, especially pies, cookies and cinnamon rolls. She also enjoyed doing embroidery work.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island and a former member of St. Libory Catholic Church Altar Society.
Survivors include, two sons and daughters-in-law, Roland and Sue Trentman of St. Libory and Neal and Mary Trentman of Dannebrog; a daughter, Marlene Niemoth of St. Libory; five grandchildren and spouses, Mike and Allison, Stacie and Bill, Connie and Denyce, Poul and Amy and Carrie and Kyle; two great-grandchildren, John and Hannah; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Mary Jean Nielsen of St. Libory and Wilbur and Connie Nielsen of Grand Island; one sister, Alda Boehle of St. Libory; and one sister-in-law, Jackie Nielsen of St. Libory.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alphonse; one son-in-law, Jack Niemoth; three brothers, Arild Dean, Robert and Mick Nielsen; two sisters, Annabel Lynch and her husband, Quentin and Norma Funderburg and her husband, Doyle and a brother-in-law, Charles Boehle.
