Mary Maxine Rasmussen, 76, of Lincoln died July 27, 2008 at Heritage Point in Omaha.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. The Reverends Mark Middendorf and Clint Poppe will officiate. A private family interment will be held. There will not be any visitation.
Memorials are suggested to Happy Jack Chalk Mine.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rasmussen was born October 22, 1931 in Scotia to LeRoy and Ethel (Maxwell) Yax.
She was raised in the Scotia area and attended schools in the Fishcreek area and in Scotia. She graduated from Scotia High School in 1948. She then taught in country schools in the Scotia and Greeley areas.
She was united in marriage to Dennis Rasmussen on December 30, 1950 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia.
The couple lived in the North Loup Valley area of Howard and Greeley counties before moving to Lincoln where they have lived since.
Maxine was an artist, writer, musician, kite-flying and firecracker loving soul. She enjoyed crafts, especially ceramics where she would make her own molds, water colors, gardening, canning, flowers and fishing. She raised animals. She served as a nanny in Lincoln and became a very important part of the family's lives that she touched. She was one who could interact with anyone. She especially enjoyed spending summers in Cotesfield.
Maxine had a special love for the American flag.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Lincoln.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis of Lincoln; three daughters and spouses, Cindy and Jim Watson of Omaha, Victoria and Douglas Hughes of Lincoln and Mary Jo and Dan Veskrna of Blair; one son, Steve Rasmussen of Scotia; grandchildren, Rob and Jody Foxworthy of Wahoo, Amy and Adam Holst of Malcolm, Carey and Steve Altstadt of Omaha, Kelsea Hughes and Cera-Rose Hughes of Lincoln, and Sydney Veskrna and Trevor Veskrna of Blair; great-grandchildren Derek, Maya and Maci Foxworthy, Steven and Sophie Holst, Haley and Charlotte Altstadt; sisters, Nila Rasmussen of Elba, Vonnie Dzingle of Loup City, Jean Pedersen and her husband, Pete of Cotesfield; a brother, Bernard Yax of Wolbach and nieces, nephews and friends.
