Loretta Becker, 82, of St. Paul died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.



Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. There will not be any visitation, Mrs. Becker was cremated.



Legion Auxiliary rites will be presented by the Carl Mogensen American Auxiliary Unit #119 of St. Paul.



Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.



Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.



Mrs. Becker was born August 16, 1926 north of Worms to Arthur and Alice (Hamann) Dankert.



Loretta was baptized in Zion Lutheran Church in Worms and at the age of 6, she moved to Cairo with her family. She was confirmed in Christ Lutheran Church at Cairo. While she was growing up, Loretta worked at home, doing whatever needed to be done.



Loretta attended rural school southwest of Dannebrog and then Dannebrog High School where she graduated. Loretta first worked in Grand Island making eye glasses.



She was united in marriage to Virgil Becker on September 9, 1945 at Fort Sill, OK.



The couple first lived at Fort Sill before moving to St. Paul. They first lived in town before moving and living on a couple of farms in the St. Paul area. Loretta worked at home.



She has lived at Heritage Living Center for the past 5 years.



Loretta enjoyed quilting, crocheting afghans, playing cards and she played the organ at church for over 30 years. She was an excellent cook.



She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Christ Lutheran Ladies Aid, the Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary Unit #119 of St. Paul and was a volunteer at the Red Cross Bloodmobile.



Survivors include her husband, Virgil of St. Paul; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Donna Dankert of Grand Island.



She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Kay Becker; a son, Gayle Becker; a sister Marian Schultz and a brother, Earl Dankert.
