Kathy Jo Hurlburt, 56, of St. Paul, formerly of Greeley died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Vonnie Phillips will officiate. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Hurlburt was born October 3, 1952 in Broken Bow to Charles K. "Smokey" and Mona M. (Lindner) West.
Kathy Jo was raised in and attended school in Ansley where she graduated from Ansley High School in 1971.
She was united in marriage to Dennis Hurlburt on May 15, 1971 in Ansley.
The couple lived in Germany for one year before moving to Arcadia. They lived in various communities in central Nebraska where her husband taught and coached in high schools.
In 1991, they moved to Greeley. Kathy Jo was a para professional in the Greeley and North Loup-Scotia Schools, helping children with special needs.
Kathy Jo was very active in following the teams that her husband coached, attending and videotaping many of the games.
Kathy Jo worked in retail businesses in Grand Island. Photography was Kathy Jo's passion. It was part of her work, taking pictures of weddings, anniversaries, and class reunions and with her family it was a hobby.
She enjoyed fishing, camping, and attending her grandchildren's activities with Dennis. She loved horses, especially "Lucky", a horse she had as a child, and Patches, her dog.
Dennis and Kathy Jo recently renewed their wedding vows.
Kathy Jo was a member of the Greeley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis of St. Paul; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nikki and Moses Campos of Grand Island, Stacy and James Dugan of Greeley, and Jody Leslie and Shane Roach of Kearney; 10 grandchildren, Dylon, Kelsie Jo, Brock, and Colton Leslie, Mack Roach, Ryley and Allyson Dugan and Trew, Shylea, and Briella Campos; her parents, Smokey and Mona West of Kearney; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, Rick and Gaylene West of Loveland, CO and Chuck West of Denver.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Raymond and Beulah Lindner and Charles and Lillie West; and one sister, Linda West.
