Mrs. Hildur V. Petersen

Hildur V. Petersen, 98, of St. Paul died, Friday, April 03, 2009 at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.



Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. Ellen Campbell will officiate. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m., in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.



Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church.



Mrs. Petersen was born October 10, 1910 on a farm near Ceresco, NE to Martin and Emma (Martinson) Oakeson.



Hildur was the oldest of five children, moving with her parents to a farm near Wolbach shortly after her birth. She began her schooling in Wolbach and then in Cushing Schools. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1927 in a class of seven students.



Hildur was united in marriage to Clayton Petersen on March 1, 1932 in St. Paul.



The couple first lived in Cushing where her husband was in the oil business. They moved to St. Paul in 1935 and in 1947 Clayton entered the car business.



Later they moved to Grand Island where they lived for 4 ½ years before returning to St. Paul.



The couple enjoyed traveling and going to Nebraska football games which they did for a number of years.



Clayton died on August 18, 1976. Hildur continued to live in St. Paul for two years and then moved to Grand Island where she lived for 22 years.



She enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, AZ which she did for 17 years. During her time in Arizona she made pillow tops.



Hildur enjoyed taking trips including one to the Holy Land in 1978.



She liked to watch professional sports, especially the Atlanta Braves baseball team.



She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul



Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Marcia and Norman Keller of St. Paul, Dorla Kremlacek of Rapid City, SD and Janice Graf of Burbank, CA; a son, Clayton Petersen, Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton; two brothers, Paul and Howard Oakeson; and two sisters, Edna Cook and Verna Wurman.
