Helen J. Christensen, 94, of St. Paul died Thursday, September 18, 2008 in Grand Island.



Memorial Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Reverends Joseph Javorsky and Sheri Lodel will officiate. Inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. A chance to visit with the family and sign the guestbook will be held on Friday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church.



Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Hospice, the American Cancer Society or to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.



Mrs. Christensen was born June 27, 1914 in the Dry Creek community, near Boelus to Andrew and Elsie (Carlsen) Hald.

Helen attended Howard County District #62 through the 8th grade. She attended Boelus High School and graduated in 1932. She attended summer sessions at Kearney College and taught school in Howard County District #32 and #47.



She was united in marriage to George Christensen on June 5, 1936 in Dannebrog. They resided on a farm west of Nysted, Nebraska and attended St. Peder's Lutheran Church, where Helen was active in choir, Sunday school, and the women's group. She was also active in the Howard County Extension, and the Howard County Chorus. She was a member of PEO, Just Us Girls Club, Home Improvement Club, Dannebrog Bridge Club, and the St. Paul Bridge Club.



In 1970 George and Helen moved to St. Paul where she continued her church activities at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.



Helen enjoyed traveling, making trips to visit her brother in England and Spain, as well as visiting the Scandinavian countries and various regions here at home.



Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law; Bryan & Lola Christensen of Dannebrog, a daughter and special friend; Janet Fenton & Gene Rewolinski of Grand Island, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one step great-granddaughter.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George on March 11, 1981, and brothers Alton & Earl Hald.
