Mrs. Hazel M. Carlson

Hazel M. Carlson, 96, of St. Paul, formerly Dannebrog died Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.



Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m, Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. will officiate. There will not be any visitation, Mrs. Carlson was cremated.



Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.



Mrs. Carlson was born June 2, 1913 on a farm near Dannebrog to James A. and Margaret (Jorgensen) Harvey.



She attended country school District 61. She entered Dannebrog High School in 1926, receiving her diploma in 1930.



She then helped on the farm for 4 years.



Hazel was united in marriage to Eugene Jacobsen on August 31, 1934 in Kearney. Gene bought the Blue Bird café© from his uncle, Hubert Moomey. In 1937, he sold the café© to Soren and Sophie Elgard.



Their daughter, Jeanene was born April 15, 1938. The family moved to Brush, CO for a year before returning to Dannebrog. In 1941 they moved to Buffalo, NY. Her husband Gene died in 1955.



Hazel became the head cook in Dannebrog high school. In 1957 she began working at the State Bank of Dannebrog where she was employed until 1960. She also worked for Northwestern Bell in Dannebrog.



Hazel married O.G. Carlson at Las Vegas in 1960.



In appreciation for years of generous service, she was awarded the outstanding citizen of Dannebrog in 1979.



Her husband, O.G. Carlson died on August 29, 1984.



Hazel moved to Matelyn Retirement Community in St. Paul in March 2004 and to Heritage Living Center in St. Paul in November 2006.



She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog.



Hazel served as organist at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church for 25 years. She volunteered to play the organ at the Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island and at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul for 25 years.



Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanene and George Vosicky of Central City; three grandchildren and their spouses, JoAnn and Kent Norquest of York, Denise and Patrick Neill of Kearney and James and Teri Vosicky of Lincoln; five great-grandchildren, Michele Norquest, Sarah Norquest, Kelsey Neill, Alexa Neill and Anna Vosicky.



Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gene Jacobsen and O.G. Carlson, a brothr Earl Harvey and a sister, Flora Jensen.
