Mrs. Florence H. Nelson

Florence H. Nelson, 90, of St. Paul, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.



Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.



Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.



Mrs. Nelson was born December 26, 1917 in York, NE to Herman and Anna (Willman) Stahr. At the age of 2 her family moved to Chappell, NE where she attended District School #17 through 8th grade. She then attended Deuel County High School where she graduated in 1936. Florence taught school from 1937-1938.



Florence was united in marriage to Ellis Nelson on December 4, 1938 in Chappell, NE. The couple lived and farmed northwest of St. Paul for all of their married life. Florence was a professional cake decorator. The couple made and sold rock and coin jewelry and other items at flea markets and fairs. The couple had a number of animals and exotic birds which they showed to many school children.



Florence especially loved to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed vacationing and going to casinos and also liked to play bingo. She enjoyed all types of flowers especially roses.



She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid in St. Paul. She was active in the church, holding many jobs including Sunday School teacher and church treasurer.



Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sondra Nelson of St. Paul; two daughters, Beverly Harris and her spouse George Dethleff and Karen McCord, all of St. Paul; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Catherine Stahr of Chappell, NE and two sisters, Gladys Flores of Sterling, CO and Mable Krider of St. Paul.



Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellis on October 21, 1987; one daughter, Sandra Kay Scheer; one grandson, Troy McCord; one granddaughter, Tonya McCord Steele; one brother, Lloyd Stahr and two sisters, Hilda Rahe and Ruby Leachman.
