Cathy L. Vang, 71, of St. Paul died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Vang was born April 8, 1937 in Trenton, NJ. She was raised in Lake Charles, LA.
She was united in marriage to Carl Vang on July 20, 1962 in Moab, UT.
While living in Moab, she did cleaning work in motels.
The couple moved to Nebraska in 1964. Cathy worked as a bartender and also cleaned houses for the elderly. She then worked at Pump and Pantry and at Swift & Co. in Grand Island for 27 years until her retirement. She also cleaned houses.
Cathy's family was the most important part of her life. She was excellent cook and enjoyed cooking and baking for them. She also liked to give away baked goods to friends and neighbors, making sure she kept some at home in case someone would stop over. Cathy liked to volunteer her time and help others, which was evident by her being a Girl Scout leader.
Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, collecting salt and pepper shakers, coins and spoons. She liked to listen to country music, watch wrestling on television and go for rides in the country.
Survivors include her husband, Carl of St. Paul; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karla and Bill Arnold and Kerry and Alfredo Garcia, all of Grand Island; six grandchildren, Aleece, Kameron, Laisha, Ciara, Maria and Alfredo and one great-grandson, Kadyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
