Mrs. Betty Jean Evans

Betty Jean Evans, 87, of Dannebrog died Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Lakeview Nursing Home in Firth, NE.



Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the First Baptist Church Family Center in Dannebrog. The Reverend Barry Arndt will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Dannebrog. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the church.



Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.



Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Evans was born September 15, 1921 in Aurora, NE to Glenn Henry and Lourene Irene Archer.

Betty moved to Litchfield in 1931. She attended Litchfield High School where she graduated in 1942. She received her teaching certificate and taught for one year.



She was united in marriage to Eugene Virgil Evans on October 10, 1944 in Kearney. She moved with her husband to Clarksville, TN. Where they lived from 1943-1946 while her husband was in the military. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1946 where Betty was a homemaker. In 1954, the couple moved to Dannebrog where she drove bus and taught for Head Start 1972-1975. She worked as a custodian for Centura Schools from 1976-1982. She also was a custodian at the First Baptist Church during this time.



Betty enjoyed gardening, spending time with her children and grandchildren, embroidering and visiting with friends and neighbors and being an active member in her church. She loved helping everyone and she was known in town as "Mom" and "Grandma" to many.



She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dannebrog.



Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Kyle Townsend of Hickman, NE; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Evans of Copperas Cove, TX, Dennis Evans and Gerald and Char Evans, all of Longmont, CO; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ronnie Archer and Larry and Diane Archer, all of Grand Island; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Virginia and Jack Zlomke and Katheryn Hansen of Grand Island and Peggy and Glen Bowers of Lexington.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; one son Billie Evans; a grandson, Tom Mancuso; five brothers, Kenneth, Jack, Richard "Dick", James "Jim", and Gary Archer; and a half brother, Donald Strong.
