Betty A. Burton, 82, of Scotia died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at the Greeley Care Center in Greeley.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. The Reverend Mark Middendorf will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the church in Scotia.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Burton was born June 19, 1926 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Earnest and Willie (Roberts) Brannon.
She was raised in Fort Smith and then in Oklahoma.
Betty was united in marriage to J. Leonard Burton on March 9, 1942 in Oklahoma City. The couple lived in various cities while Leonard served in the military. The couple moved to Scotia in 1947 and Leonard farmed with his father. When Leonard retired from the farm in January 1985, the couple moved into Scotia. After Leonard's death, Betty continued to live in Scotia for the remainder of her life.
Betty enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and working crossword puzzles. She was a good cook and was well known for her potato salad. In the 1960's, Betty played records at the Community Building in Scotia for dances and where they roller skated.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia, the Scotia American Legion Auxiliary and the Lamertine Card Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Harriett Glines and her husband Howard and Denise Benson and her husband Dick, all of Scotia, and Cynthia Marshall and Harold Stroud of Red Cloud; a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard Ray and Karen Burton of Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; a granddaughter, Lana Glines and an infant son.
