Bernice Vance, 83, of St. Paul died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Services will be held Friday, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Scotia. The Reverend Bruce Phillips will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia.
Memorials are suggested to the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Vance was born May 24, 1925 at Boelus, NE to Hans and Elvera (Christensen) Boesen.
She was raised and attended schools in the Scotia area.
Bernice was united in marriage to John Vance on December 31, 1946 in Phillipsburg, KS.
The couple lived most of their life in the central Nebraska area. Bernice worked as a waitress in the different communities in which they lived.
Her husband John died in 1982. Bernice has lived in St. Paul for the past 11 years.
Bernice enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, the TV guide, country music, and playing pinochle. Bernice and her husband enjoyed dancing in their younger years.
Bernice was a member of the Scotia United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lois Schroeder of Gering, Judy and Colin Macdonald of Gardner, KS and Beverly and Lee Patitz of Hastings; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Arley and Helen Boesen of Phillips, NE; and two sisters, Velma Stern and Pearl Jensen, both of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; one son, Larry Dale Vance; and two sons-in-law, Raymond Roy Barnes and Lonnie Ray Schroeder.
