Michael G. Potter, 60, of Palmer, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at his home in Palmer.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2009 at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Robert Schilling will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington. There will not be any visitation, Mr. Potter was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Potter was born May 27, 1948 in Lexington to Harold and Wilma (Pedersen) Low. In 1962, he was adopted by his stepfather, Earl Potter.
Michael graduated from Cozad High School in 1966.
He was united in marriage to Myra (Mickie) Schwartz in September 1968.
The couple lived and Michael worked in North Platte for 13 years at Hoppe Lumber, Coca Cola and Budweiser. They moved to Elba where he owned and operated Mike's Bar for several years. He worked 13 years for Great Lakes Redi Mix in Grand Island and he was a door greeter at the north Walmart for the past 3 years.
His grandchildren were a very special part of his life. He also enjoyed his dog, Max.
Michael was a past member of the Elba Fire Department and he also had a men's softball team in Elba, Big Mike's.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer.
Survivors include wife, Mickie of Palmer; two daughters, Michelle Potter and her friend, Jimmy Stevens of Cordova and Melissa and her husband, Jeff McClure of Palmer; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Beth Potter of Palmer; grandchildren, Marcus and Ashley Potter of York, James Critel of York, Sam, Shaun, and Amanda McClure of Palmer and Alexis and Jayson Potter of Palmer; his mother and father, Wilma and Earl Potter of Grand Island; one sister and brother-in-law, Bobbi and Rod Adams of Lincoln; a niece, Ashley Garey and a nephew, Brian Garey, both of Lincoln.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Harold Low; and his grandparents, John and Ruth Pedersen, Earl and Blanch Potter, Sr. and Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Low.
