Kenneth Peetz, 73, of North Loup died, Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be held Monday, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. The Reverends Mark Middendorf and Paul Kern will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia. Military honors at graveside will be presented by the Reuben-Beck American Legion Post #150 of Scotia.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Peetz was born October 12, 1935 in Omaha to Russell and Alice (Suhl) Peetz.
He moved with his family that year to a farm west of Wolbach and through the years, 7 children were raised, Marialice, Dick, Sharon, Kenneth, Arlen, Eilene, and Terry.
Kenneth attended Summit rural school for his elementary education and graduated from Wolbach High School in 1954.
He entered the U.S. Army in January 1955, being stationed at Fort Ord, CA and Fort Lewis, WA, serving with the 38th Infantry being honorably discharged in January 1957.
After Army life, he helped his uncle Arlie Suhl at Bellevue, NE working at Suhl's Trailer Court and also held a job at Allied Chemical Plant near Bellevue.
On June 8, 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Marianne Cook at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They lived in Suhl's Trailer Court in Bellevue for two years, continuing to work at Allied Chemical. In May 1959, they moved to a farm south of Wolbach near Cushing where they were blessed with a daughter and two sons.
In 1967, the family moved to a farm southwest of North Loup where he resided until his death.
Kenneth enjoyed working the land and raising Angus-Charolais cattle until he suffered a stroke in December 1996. He liked to travel, play cards, hunt and watch sports. It was his grandchildren's visits that put a sparkle in his eyes.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Rueben-Beck American Legion Post #150, both of Scotia.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Marianne of North Loup; a daughter, Annette Malmstrom of Scotia; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Jodie Peetz of North Loup; grandchildren, Nathan Malmstrom and his wife Christy of Cotesfield, Brian Malmstrom of Ravenna, Jenae Malmstrom of Scotia and Kyler and Reilly Peetz of North Loup; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marialice Nuernberger of Cedar Rapids and Eilene and Bud Pogue of Greeley and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick and Joyce Peetz and Terry and Jean Peetz, all of Wolbach; mother-in-law, Leatha Cook of Wolbach; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Shirley Cook of Wolbach and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son David in 1985; a brother and his wife, Arlen and Evelyn Peetz; a sister and her husband, Sharon and Glenn Allard; a nephew, Tim Peetz; two infant sisters, Connie and Phyliss Peetz; brothers-in-law, Dale Burkhardt, Edwin Kolar and Glenn Nuernberger; and his father-in-law, Homer Cook.
