Joseph E. Ambrose, 54, of Yutan, formerly of Elba, beloved son, husband, father, and grandpa passed away suddenly at home on June 6, 2009.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba. The Reverend Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Yutan. Further visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 5 - 8 p.m. with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.



Joseph was born on March 28, 1955 to Milton and Esther (Jonak) Ambrose in St. Paul, NE. He grew up on a farm between Elba and St. Paul. Joe attended Elba Public School, graduating with the class of 1973 and attended Central Community College in Hastings, NE, where he received a certificate in mechanics.



He was joined in marriage to Linda C. Jensen on June 14, 1975.



The couple lived in Hastings, NE and later moved to a family farm near Elba, NE. Joe farmed and worked for Wells' Plumbing. From 1986-1987 Joe moved to Saudi Arabia and worked on a wheat irrigation farm. When he returned to Elba, he started his own plumbing business, Ambrose Plumbing. He also worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. In 1998 the Ambrose family moved into the town of Elba and bought Grover's Bar. Joe joined the Waldinger Co. in 2001 where he worked for the plumbers union accomplishing jobs around Nebraska and Iowa. His job brought his family to Yutan, where they reside.



Joseph was a member of the Mead Catholic Church where he enjoyed playing music for mass. He was also a member of the Plumbers Union Local 16.



Joe was a great thinker who loved to tinker. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, hunting, riding his motorcycle, playing music, polka, going to ball games and visiting with others. He knew no strangers.



Survivors include wife Linda (Jensen) Ambrose of 33 years, of Yutan, son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey, Carrie (Rieck) Ambrose, grandchildren Carter and Maverick all of Bennet, NE, Daughter and son-in-law KellyJo (Ambrose) and Robert Everson of Lincoln, daughter Kayla and son Ryan Ambrose both of Yutan, mother Esther (Jonak) Ambrose of St. Paul, NE, brother and sister-in-law Carl and Barbara (Nelsen) Ambrose of Buckeye, AZ, brother Craig Ambrose of St. Paul, NE, Sister Michelle (Ambrose) Boyle of Pierre Australia, sister and brother-in-law Beverly (Ambrose) and Michael Fitzsimmons of Dannebrog, NE, many nieces and nephew and other loving family and friends.
