Howard J. Stoffel, 82, of Wolbach, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Nebraska Veterans Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the United Methodist Church in Wolbach. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Interment will be held in Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach with military honors by Ray Mapes American Legion Post #236 of Wolbach. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the church in Wolbach.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mr. Stoffel was born March 24, 1926 on a farm in east of Wolbach in Nance County to Frank & Maria (Benz) Stoffel. Howard attended rural school east of Wolbach and graduated from Wolbach High School in 1943.
He was united in marriage to Ella Ostrander, to which one son, John Howard Stoffel was born.
Howard served in the United States Army from April 25, 1951 until receiving his discharge on June 17, 1953. Most of his time was spent in Korea.
He married Georgia M. Baldwin on September 29, 1956 in Wolbach. They lived on the family farm near Wolbach and farmed with his brother Reynard. They later moved into town. Howard worked at several different places including Grossarts Propane, he then owned a Grocery Store in Wolbach, worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island. He pumped gravel for Christensen Gravel and then worked at Monforts in Grand Island for seven years. He retired but continued to farm for Ernest Bane & Larry Steenson.
He enjoyed gardening, canning, raising chickens and playing cards. He also loved to watch westerns and older shows. He enjoyed his grandchildren and making them malts. He was well known for being a jokester and loved to tell stories. He was an avid listener to Polka music and country music.
Howard was a 54 year member of the Ray Mapes American Legion Post #236.
Survivors include three sons & a daughter-in-law; Tom Stoffel of Sidney, Dennis Stoffel of Grand Island, John Howard & Lanette Stoffel of Norfolk; two daughters & a son-in-law; Deanna & Steve Lindsley of Wolbach and Brenda Stoffel Zulkoski of Columbus; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Georgia on January 5, 1999; one son-in-law Gordon Zulkoski; two sisters Velda Greek & Freida Foster; and three brothers Bud, Andrew, and Reynard Stoffel.
