Fredrick A. "Fred" Burkhart, 68, of St. Paul died, Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.



Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Jacobsen- Greenway Funeral Home in St Paul NE with the Father Ray Kosmicki officiating. Inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Mr. Burkhart was cremated. A time to sign the book and greet the family will be held on Monday, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.



Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.



Fred was born September 14, 1940 in Clarence, MO to Floyd and Esther (Randall) Burkhart. He was educated in Bouton and Perry IA, and graduated from Woodward IA in 1958.



In 1963 he was united in marriage to Karolyn Hunt in Valentine NE. From this marriage four children were born, Elizabeth, Randall, Patrick, and Timothy



In 1983 he was united in marriage to Cindy McDonald in Sheridan WY. From this marriage one child was born, Sarah.



Fred worked for four major Railroads in his career starting with the Milwaukee, then Burlington Northern, Montana Rail Link, and the Nebraska Central Railroad. One of his many positions as an Engineer was to train others to be engineers he enjoyed this position more than any other he took great pride in teaching and seeing others succeed. He retired after 30 years of service and became a gentleman farmer in Ashton NE.

In 2006, Fred, Cindy and Sarah moved to St Paul NE where he lived until his death.



Surviving him is his wife Cindy, daughters Sarah at home and Elizabeth of Des Monies IA, and sons Randall of Perry IA, Patrick of Des Monies IA, and Timothy of Bozeman MT. He is also survived by his Mother Esther Burkhart Crellin, and sister and brother in law Donna and Don Daniels of Panora, IA along with three grandsons, Devon, Kent and Dante and numerous nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his father Floyd Burkhart and a daughter - in-law Rose Burkhart.
