Mr. Elmer H. Becker

Elmer H. Becker, 85, of St. Paul died Tuesday, August 05, 2008 at Bryan-LGH West in Lincoln.



Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Revel Matheke will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Fire Department or EMT's.



Mr. Becker was born April 26, 1923 west of St. Libory to Henry W. and Jennie C. (Meyers) Becker, Jr.



He attended Bunker Hill School south of St. Paul and then rural schools northwest of St. Paul. After his schooling, he helped his father farm near St. Paul. After his father passed away, Elmer continued farming.



Elmer was united in marriage to Anna May Gregory on April 11, 1948 in the Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island.



To this union, four children were born, Steven, Daryl, Debra and Michael.



The couple lived near St. Paul where they were engaged in farming and Elmer also worked at Third City Livestock Sale Barn in Grand Island until buying into the business and running it for 54 years until it closed in 2001. He trucked livestock for a number of years, serving many farmers in the area.



He also worked for the Loup City Livestock sale barn as a field representative until the time of his death. He also continued to help farm and raise cattle.



Elmer was a kind and gentle husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with his family being a very important part of his life. He was known for also helping anyone in need. He enjoyed working on his tractors and equipment and raising livestock. Elmer enjoyed visiting with people and one of his favorite pastimes was watching Wheel of Fortune.



He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, a past member of Feeders and Breeders and a member of the Cattleman's Association.



Survivors include his wife, Anna May of St. Paul; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daryl Becker and Mike and Linda Becker, all of St. Paul; one daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Roy Rasmussen of Palmer; 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one sister, JoAnn Schwieger of St. Paul.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven; two brothers, Raymond and Lawrence Becker and two sisters, Bernice Stewart and Irene Smith.
