Charley E. Lemburg, 95, of Nysted died Monday, November 03, 2008 at his home.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo. The Reverend Glen Keylon will officiate. Interment will be held in Loup Fork Cemetery near Boelus. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the church in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lemburg was born September 13, 1913 in rural Boelus to Fred and Alma (Rustrum) Lemburg.
Charley was raised in the Boelus area. He was baptized in the Dry Creek Lutheran Church. He attended school District 74in the Dry Creek area in Howard County. Charley was confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church in Worms.
Charley was united in marriage to Phyllis Beyersdorf on August 12, 1941 in the parsonage of Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. When they were married, their only mode of transportation was a motorcycle with a side car. When they started a family they needed to get a car to take their family.
The couple lived on several farms west of Dannebrog where Charley was engaged in farming. They moved to Nysted in 1944 where they have lived since. After moving to Nysted, Charley became a mechanic.
Charley was active up to just a few days before his death. He enjoyed doing things around the house and helping his son, Leonard.
The couple celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in August 2008.
Charley and Phyllis liked to fish, go on vacations and camp. The couple also camped in Yellowstone National Park. Charley rode his Harley Davison motorcycle with the side car in the first Harvest of Harmony parade in Grand Island.
Charley was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo and the Platte-Duetsche of Grand Island.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Dannebrog; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Leonard Lemburg and his friend, Karen of Dannebrog, Eugene and Barb Lemburg of Aurora and Jerry and Kris Lemburg of Wood River; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Russel and Charlene Lemburg of Dannebrog, Roger and Bonnie Lemburg and Roland and Joan Lemburg, all of California; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Doris and Don Obermiller of Dannebrog and Ada Ashby of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald; one granddaughter, Kathy; one great-granddaughter, Stacey; one daughter-in-law, Barbara; two brothers, Albert and Henry Lemburg; and two sisters, Mable Jorgensen and Bessie Dobry.
